The Whitsunday Islands and Resort Information

The Whitsunday Islands are among the finest charter cruising grounds in the world.  Nestled in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, they offer tranquil, turquoise waters, secluded anchorages and perfect year round tropical climate.  It’s no wonder people return to these islands year after year!

The Whitsunday Islands are situated off the North East coast of Queensland in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and are world famous for amazing scenery, beaches, and fringing coral reefs. The Whitsunday waters provide a vast array of marine life including whales, dolphins, turtles and mantarays, making it a perfect spot for snorkeling and diving.

There are over 74 islands in the Whitsunday group, so you can guarantee that no matter which direction the winds are blowing, you will always be able to find a safe and comfortable anchorage for the night. And with easy line of sight navigation, cruising the Whitsundays could not be more simple.

The Whitsundays has something to please even the most discerning sailor. Anchorages such as Nara or Macona Inlet offer spectacular lush fjord like scenery with smooth tranquil waters for a perfect night’s sleep. You can explore the inlet on foot or by dinghy and enjoy waterfalls, aboriginal cave paintings and an abundance of native wildlife.

Daydream Island Resort

Daydream Island offers a large variety of activities and facilities; many are free of charge. It boasts an outdoor movie cinema, tennis courts and a gym. Moorings are available at a cost of $75 p/night, or if you prefer, you can arrange for assistance to berth close to the island for $120 p/night.

South Molle Island Resort

Consisting of 405 hectares of unspoilt National Park, South Molle Island has 16 kilometres of walking tracks which takes you through lush forests to hilltop lookouts offering panoramic water views of the Whitsundays and surrounding Islands. South Molle cater for the over 18 age group.

Long Island – Palm Bay Hideaway Resort

Peppers Palm Bay Resort welcomes bareboat guests and offer a personalised mooring service. A skipper will come out to your vessel and guide you through the passage to your mooring. An excellent restaurant offers some of the best cuisine in the Whitsundays. Bookings are essential. (Please Note: children under 14 are not catered for at this resort.)

Long Island – Happy Bay – Club Crocodile

Club Crocodile Long Island Resort is set amidst frangipanis, coconut palms and tropical flame trees, surrounded by rainforest and Queensland’s spectacular Great Barrier Reef. Enjoy two pools, a great beach and daily activities.

Hayman Island Resort

The exclusive resort of Hayman is one of the Leading Hotels in the World. Australian bushland flows into tropical palm fringed beaches. This resort is located very close to some of the best coral reef systems in the Whitsundays, and a day visit can be added to your itinerary (subject to availability).  Charges apply.

Hook Island Resort

Hook Island is the second largest of the Whitsunday Islands. The Resort is situated on the south-eastern corner of the Island and enjoys a very relaxed, informal atmosphere. There is an underwater observatory worth a visit adjacent to the resort. Moorings are available.

Lindeman Island – Club Med

Lindeman Island is run by Club Mediterranean and it situated approx. 5 miles south-east of Hamilton Island. This lush tropical island abounds in natural beauty because most of the island is National Park. There are some marvellous graded walking tracks through vine forests and valleys for the nature lover.

Hamilton Island

This is the Whitsundays largest Resort Island. It hosts many hotels, villas and apartments, as well as a large range of restaurants, bars and shops. Hamitlon Island is a great place to visit mid-charter . You can moor in the Marina overnight, stock up your supplies in the General Store and treat yourself and the crew to an evening ashore!

Cost of an overnight Marina berth- $105 o/night or $17.50 p/hour.

There are over 85 activities to choose from on the Island including windsurfing, golf, go-carts and a rifle range.  Golf buggies are available for hire for transport around the Island.

Humpback Whales

The Whitsunday Islands provide a safe, sheltered breeding ground for the majestic Humpback Whales. Each year between July and October, these gentle giants return to the Whitsunday’s to raise their newborn calves, and enjoy the warm tropical waters before their annual migration back to Antarctica.
